Cannabinoid Spotlight: THCa

THCa, or tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, is one of the hundreds of compounds found in the raw cannabis plant and is also one of the most abundant. THCa in its raw, unheated form is the non-psychoactive form of a compound we know well, THC.  Although THCa converts into THC it holds different properties and potential benefits than its close partner THC. The power of THCa is just beginning to be discovered in research and may be the key to unlocking the power of the whole plant. As you see THCa creep into the cannabis marketplace keep this information in mind as you decide if it's right for you.

THCa becomes THC through the process of decarboxylation, basically adding heat through common processes like smoking, vaping, baking edibles, and creating concentrates. But before this occurs THCa lives as its own compound that affects the body differently than its psychoactive conversion. Like other acid compounds like CBDa, THCa does not interact with the CB1 and CB2 receptors of the endocannabinoid system. Instead, the THCa works to support your body's functions that work to reduce inflammation, boost the immune system, and reduce pain. These functions are that of the COX-1 and COX-2 enzyme as well as TNF-Alpha and Interleukin-10. By surpassing the CB1 and CB2 receptors, THCa remains a non-psychoactive compound.

THCa has become popular for consumers looking to find relief, especially daytime relief while avoiding the psychoactive effects of THC products. Research has begun to unlock the potential benefits of this acid compound. Not only can THCa be a great addition to your daily health and wellness routine studies have shown  it may also provide these benefits and relief from these ailments:

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Neuroprotectant
  • Anti-seizure
  • Antiproliferative (cancer-fighting, specifically prostate)
  • Insomnia
  • Anti-nausea
  • Appetite increase
  • Crohn's disease
  • Arthritis, Fibromyalgia
  • Lupus & other Autoimmune disorders
  • Muscle Spasms
  • Pain

THCa can be ingested in a variety of ways. Tinctures, juicing raw cannabis, capsules, and topicals, are the common forms of incorporating THCa into your routine. These products are created without the exposure to heat to ensure that the THCa does not convert to THC (remember it is important to store your THCa products in a cool area to avoid this conversion). Here at CKSoul, we have created a THCa tincture to add to our line up to ensure that we offer everything the plant has to offer. CKSoul Serenity THCa is extracted at extremely low temperatures using organic olive oil in order to preserve the therapeutic acid-based properties of THCa and maintain excellent bioavailability. This process allows the profile of this tincture to be extremely similar to that of the actual flowers of the plant while preserving all the therapeutic benefits.
