WHAT IS TERPINOLENE?
Terpinolene is a terpene found in cannabis as well as sage, lilac, rosemary, and tea tree. Terpinolene has a notable woody smell, similar to that strong scent of a pinecone, and is used in many essential oils. Although it is not as common, and may be one of the least common terpenes found in cannabis it is now being recognized for its powerful qualities. When it comes to finding Terpinolene in cannabis it is more common to be in larger amounts in THC dominant strains and THC dominant products. The common feeling associated with THC dominant strains is relaxation, terpinolene is one of the culprits. Sleepiness and in turn reduction in anxiety has been reported when ingesting cannabis with Terpinolene. This is only one example of the therapeutic qualities that Terpinolene brings to the table.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF TERPINOLENE?
Essential oils that contain Terpinolene, most commonly tea tree, have been used as an antifungal and antibacterial, and even insect repellent for centuries. It wasn’t until recent research concluded that Terpinolene was the magic behind these qualities and many others. Although Terpinolene is found in smaller amounts in cannabis, it packs a punch. Not only was it shown to possibly prevent LDL (Bad Cholesterol), the major contributor to Heart Disease, it also inhibited cell growth in cancer cells. Cancer and Heart Disease are leading causes of death, who knew that terpenes and cannabis may be the answer.
Studies on the terpene have also shown promise as for the following benefits:
- Sedative/Sleep Aid
